Nador sits on the shore of Mar Chica, a 115 square kilometre lagoon that is the largest in North Africa, with the Rif mountains behind it. It sees a fraction of the foreign visitors who reach Marrakech or Fes, and most of its traffic is Moroccan families returning from Europe, ferry passengers off the Almeria and Motril routes, and people crossing to and from Melilla.

For Gulf travellers it generally appears as a connection rather than a destination - a way into Morocco from Spain that avoids Tangier, a stop on a Mediterranean coastal route, or the top of a drive down to Fes. The corniche is pleasant and the fish is excellent, but the reasons to be here are mostly practical.

Those practical reasons are exactly where a driver earns his fee. The airport is 15 km out, the ferry terminal at Beni Ansar is somewhere else again, the Melilla border queue is unpredictable, and Saidia and Al Hoceima are serious drives along the coast. Every booking is private and the rate is agreed in advance.

Why hire a driver here

  • Airport, ferry terminal and border sit in three different directions
  • How the Melilla queue is moving decides when you should set off
  • Ferry arrivals from Europe carry far more luggage than a taxi holds
  • Saidia's beaches and the coast to Al Hoceima cover long distances
  • Fes is five hours south over the Rif and through the Taza gap

Included in every booking

  • Fuel, tolls and the driver's fee for the agreed route
  • Airport, ferry port, border or hotel pickup
  • Arabic and English-speaking drivers as standard
  • Extra luggage capacity at no charge
  • Bottled water and phone charging in the vehicle

Airport and Port Transfers in Nador

Al Aroui (NDR) lies 15 km south of town and handles mainly European traffic - Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands above all. The ferry terminal at Beni Ansar, taking the Almeria and Motril sailings, is a different port entirely, 12 km north and hard against the Melilla border.

It is the border that makes planning interesting. Depending on the day and the hour the queue can take five minutes or well over an hour, and our drivers have run it often enough to know when to go rather than simply joining the end of it. Send us the flight or sailing and we leave room for it.

Trips That Start in Nador

Transfer - Nador airport or ferry into the city

15 km from Al Aroui, 12 from Beni Ansar, both short runs. Timed to your flight or sailing, with extra luggage capacity as standard for families arriving from Europe.

1 day - Saidia and the eastern beaches

East along the coast to the long sand beaches at Saidia near the Algerian border, lunch on the front and an evening return. The main beach day out of Nador.

1 day - Al Hoceima and the Mediterranean coast

West on a genuinely spectacular coast road to Al Hoceima and the national park, all cliffs, coves and almost no traffic. A long day and one of the least-known drives in Morocco.

Transfer - Nador to Fes

Five hours south through the Rif and the Taza gap, the standard way of linking the Mediterranean coast to the imperial cities, usually with a lunch stop en route.

Driving and Getting Around Nador

Nador city is easy to drive: compact, modern and never gridlocked the way the big cities get. The corniche along Mar Chica is the agreeable part, and the centre is walkable once you are in it.

The three arrival points are what you plan around. Airport, ferry terminal and border lie in different directions, and a badly timed border run in particular costs an hour that a driver watching the queues would have saved you.

The coast road west to Al Hoceima is beautiful and slow, carved into cliffs above the Mediterranean with long empty stretches. Fuel stops are rare, so drivers fill up before setting out, and it is not a road for after dark.

FAQs

Nador Car Hire With Driver - Your Questions

How much is a private driver in Nador in AED?

A sedan with driver starts from about a day, a 4x4 roughly and a van , the usual choice for families off the ferry. Prices convert to AED automatically and include fuel, tolls and the driver.

Can you meet us at the Melilla border?

Yes, daily. Crossing times vary a great deal, so tell us roughly when you expect to be through and the driver waits on the Moroccan side rather than leaving you to find transport at the barrier.

How far is Nador airport from the city?

Al Aroui is about 15 km south, a 20-minute run. Beni Ansar ferry port is 12 km north in the opposite direction, so it is worth being clear which one you are arriving at.

How long is the drive from Nador to Fes?

About five hours south through the Rif and the Taza gap, on decent roads throughout. It is the most common onward leg from Nador for anyone continuing into the rest of the country.

Is Nador worth staying in?

For most Gulf itineraries it is a link rather than a destination - a way in from Spain or a waypoint on a Mediterranean route. The corniche and the fish are good, but with limited days, Al Hoceima and the coast road west are the better use of them.

Can you take an extended family group with heavy luggage?

That is most of what we do here. Vans and minibuses are the standard vehicle in Nador precisely because ferry arrivals travel heavy, and luggage capacity carries no extra charge.
