Nador is a Mediterranean city on the shore of Mar Chica, the largest lagoon in North Africa, and it sees a tiny fraction of the foreign visitors who reach Marrakech or Fes. Most of its traffic is Moroccan families coming home from Europe, ferry passengers off the Almeria and Motril routes, and people crossing to and from the Spanish enclave of Melilla just up the coast.
For Canadian travellers it generally appears as a connection rather than a destination: a way into Morocco from Spain that skips Tangier, a stop along a Mediterranean coastal route, or the top of a drive down to Fes. The city has a long corniche and very good fish, but the reasons to be here are mostly practical ones.
Those practical reasons are exactly where a driver earns his fee. The airport is 15 km out, the ferry terminal at Beni Ansar is somewhere else again, the Melilla border queue is unpredictable, and the beaches and Al Hoceima are serious drives along the coast.
