Nador is a Mediterranean city on the shore of Mar Chica, the largest lagoon in North Africa, and it sees a tiny fraction of the foreign visitors who reach Marrakech or Fes. Most of its traffic is Moroccan families coming home from Europe, ferry passengers off the Almeria and Motril routes, and people crossing to and from the Spanish enclave of Melilla just up the coast.

For Canadian travellers it generally appears as a connection rather than a destination: a way into Morocco from Spain that skips Tangier, a stop along a Mediterranean coastal route, or the top of a drive down to Fes. The city has a long corniche and very good fish, but the reasons to be here are mostly practical ones.

Those practical reasons are exactly where a driver earns his fee. The airport is 15 km out, the ferry terminal at Beni Ansar is somewhere else again, the Melilla border queue is unpredictable, and the beaches and Al Hoceima are serious drives along the coast. Every booking is private and the rate is agreed in advance.

Why hire a driver here

  • Airport, ferry berth and frontier each lie a different way out of town
  • How long the Melilla queue runs decides when you should leave
  • People coming off the European ferries bring more than any taxi will take
  • Saidia's beaches and the coast to Al Hoceima are spread over long distances
  • Fes lies five hours to the south, over the Rif and through the Taza gap

Included in every booking

  • Fuel, tolls and the driver's fee for the agreed route
  • Airport, ferry port, border or hotel pickup
  • English or French-speaking drivers, your choice
  • Extra luggage capacity at no charge
  • Bottled water and phone charging in the vehicle

Vehicles

Cars, Vans and Buses With Driver in Nador

Nador work leans heavily to vans and minibuses, because so much of it is families arriving by sea with luggage. Sedans and SUVs handle transfers and coastal day trips. Prices below convert to Canadian dollars automatically.

Airport and Port Transfers in Nador

Al Aroui (NDR) is 15 km south of the city and serves mostly European routes, particularly from Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands. Beni Ansar, where the Almeria and Motril ferries dock, is a separate port 12 km north near the Melilla border.

The Melilla crossing is the variable. Border queues run anywhere from a few minutes to well over an hour depending on the day and the time, and our drivers know the rhythm well enough to time a run rather than join the back of it blind. Give us your flight or sailing and we build in the margin.

Trips That Start in Nador

Transfer - Nador airport or ferry into the city

15 km from Al Aroui, 12 from Beni Ansar, both short. Timed to your flight or sailing, with extra luggage capacity as standard for families arriving from Europe.

1 day - Saidia and the eastern beaches

Eastward along the shoreline to the long sands of Saidia close to the Algerian frontier, lunch facing the water and back before evening. The beach day most people take from Nador.

1 day - Al Hoceima and the Mediterranean coast

West on a genuinely spectacular coast road to Al Hoceima and the national park, all cliffs, coves and almost no traffic. A long day, and one of the least-known drives in Morocco.

Transfer - Nador to Fes

Five hours southward across the Rif and through the Taza gap - the usual means of tying this Mediterranean shore to the imperial cities, generally with a stop for lunch along the way.

Driving and Getting Around Nador

Driving in Nador presents no difficulty: the place is small, modern and never seizes up the way the larger cities do. The lagoon corniche is the pleasant stretch, and the centre is easily covered on foot once you are there.

The three arrival points are the thing to plan around. Airport, ferry terminal and border lie in different directions, and a badly timed border run in particular costs an hour that a driver watching the queues would have saved you.

The coast road west to Al Hoceima is beautiful and slow, carved into cliffs above the Mediterranean with long empty stretches. Fuel stops are rare, so drivers fill up before setting out rather than assuming, and it is not a road for after dark.

FAQs

Nador Car Hire With Driver - Your Questions

How much is a private driver in Nador in Canadian dollars?

A sedan with driver starts around a day, an SUV roughly and a van , which is the usual choice for families off the ferry. Prices convert to Canadian dollars automatically and include fuel, tolls and the driver.

Can you meet us at the Melilla border?

Yes, daily. Crossing times vary a lot, so tell us roughly when you expect to be through and the driver waits on the Moroccan side rather than leaving you to find transport at the barrier.

How far is Nador airport from the city?

Al Aroui is about 15 km south, a 20-minute run. Beni Ansar ferry port is 12 km north in the opposite direction, so it pays to be clear which one you are arriving at.

How long is the drive from Nador to Fes?

Around five hours heading south across the Rif and the Taza gap, on sound roads the entire way. For anyone carrying on into the interior it is far and away the usual next leg.

Is Nador worth staying in?

For most Canadian itineraries it is a link rather than a destination - a way in from Spain or a waypoint on a Mediterranean route. The corniche and the fish are good, but with limited days, Al Hoceima and the coast road west are the better use of them.

Can you take a large family group with heavy luggage?

It is the bulk of our work in Nador. Vans and minibuses are the default here for the simple reason that ferry passengers arrive loaded, and we make no charge for luggage room.
