Nador is the Moroccan city most closely tied to Europe and least visited by Europeans as tourists. Its traffic is overwhelmingly Moroccan families returning from jobs in Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, ferry passengers off the Almeria and Motril routes, and people crossing to and from Melilla a few kilometres up the coast.

For European travellers it usually appears as a link rather than a destination: a way into Morocco from Spain that avoids Tangier, a stop on a Mediterranean coastal route, or the northern end of a drive down to Fes. The city itself has a long corniche and good fish, but the reasons to be here are mostly practical.

It is precisely those practicalities that a driver resolves. The airport lies 15 km out, Beni Ansar's ferry berth is somewhere else entirely, queues at the Melilla frontier defy prediction, and both the beaches and Al Hoceima mean serious driving along the coast. Every booking is private and the rate settled beforehand.

Why hire a driver here

  • Airport, ferry berth and frontier lie in three different directions entirely
  • Queue length at the border decides the sensible hour to travel
  • Nobody returning from Europe by boat is carrying hand luggage
  • The beaches at Saidia and the coast to Al Hoceima are widely separated
  • Reaching Fes means five hours over the Rif and through the Taza gap

Included in every booking

  • Fuel, tolls and the driver's fee for the agreed route
  • Airport, ferry port, border or hotel pickup
  • English, French and Spanish-speaking drivers available
  • Extra luggage capacity at no charge
  • Bottled water and phone charging in the vehicle

Airport and Port Transfers in Nador

The airport sits fifteen kilometres to the south, serving Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands above all. In the other direction entirely, twelve kilometres north and hard against the Melilla frontier, lies Beni Ansar, where the Almeria and Motril boats berth.

The frontier is what makes any Nador schedule uncertain. A crossing can take five minutes or an hour and a half, governed by nothing more predictable than the day and the hour. Our drivers use it constantly enough to judge the timing rather than queue blind - send the flight or sailing and we allow for it.

Trips That Start in Nador

Transfer - Nador airport or ferry to the city

Fifteen kilometres from Al Aroui and twelve from Beni Ansar, neither of them long. Timed to your flight or sailing, with the extra luggage room that families coming off the European boats invariably need.

1 day - Saidia and the eastern beaches

Eastward along the shore to the long sands at Saidia near the Algerian frontier, lunch taken on the front and an evening return. Nador's principal day at the beach.

1 day - Al Hoceima and the Mediterranean coast

Westward on a coast road of real drama towards Al Hoceima and its national park, past cliffs and coves with scarcely another vehicle. A long day, and among the least travelled routes in the country.

Transfer - Nador to Fes

Five hours south through the Rif and the Taza gap, the standard way to link the Mediterranean coast with the imperial cities. Often run with a stop for lunch on the way.

Driving and Getting Around Nador

There is nothing difficult about driving in Nador itself - a small modern city that never actually seizes up. The lagoon corniche is where it is pleasant, and the centre goes comfortably on foot.

What has to be planned is which arrival point applies, since all three face different ways. A mistimed run at the frontier in particular loses an hour that a driver following the queue would have kept for you.

Westward to Al Hoceima the road is beautiful and unhurried, carved into cliffs above the water with long empty gaps. Refuelling opportunities are rare enough that drivers top up before departure, and the road is not one to attempt after dark.

FAQs

Nador Car Hire With Driver - Your Questions

How much is a private driver in Nador?

A saloon with driver starts around a day, a 4x4 about and a van , which is the usual choice for families arriving by ferry. Prices include fuel, tolls and the driver.

Can you meet us at the Melilla border?

Yes, it is daily work for us. Crossing times swing wildly, so give us an approximate hour and the driver will be holding on the Moroccan side rather than leaving you to hunt for a car at the barrier.

Which ferry routes serve Nador?

Almeria and Motril run to Beni Ansar, with sailings year-round and a much heavier schedule through the summer. It is a useful alternative to Algeciras-Tanger Med if your route down through Spain suits the eastern coast better.

How far is Nador airport from the city?

Al Aroui lies some 15 km to the south, twenty minutes out. Beni Ansar's ferry terminal is 12 km to the north, the opposite way entirely, so do make clear which of the two you are arriving at.

How long is the drive from Nador to Fes?

About five hours south through the Rif and the Taza gap. It is a straightforward run on decent roads and the most common onward leg from Nador.

Is Nador worth staying in?

For most European itineraries it is a link rather than a destination - a way in from Spain or a stop on a Mediterranean route. The corniche and the fish are good, but if you have limited days, Al Hoceima and the coast road west are the better use of them.
