Nador is a Mediterranean city on the edge of Mar Chica, the largest lagoon in North Africa, and it sees a fraction of the foreign visitors who reach Marrakech or Fes. Most of its traffic is Moroccan families returning from Europe, ferry passengers from Almeria and Motril, and people crossing to and from the Spanish enclave of Melilla a few kilometres up the coast.
