Nador sits on the shore of Mar Chica, a 115 square kilometre lagoon that is the largest in North Africa, with the Rif mountains rising behind it. It sees a tiny fraction of the foreign visitors who reach Marrakech or Fes, and most of its traffic is Moroccan families returning from Europe, ferry passengers off the Almeria and Motril routes, and people crossing to and from Melilla.

For Indian travellers it generally appears as a connection rather than a destination - a way into Morocco from Spain that avoids Tangier, a stop on a Mediterranean coastal route, or the top of a drive down to Fes. The corniche is pleasant and the fish is excellent, but the reasons to be here are mostly practical.

It is precisely these practicalities that repay hiring a driver. The airport lies 15 km out, the Beni Ansar ferry terminal somewhere else entirely, the Melilla queue refuses prediction, and Saidia and Al Hoceima both mean serious driving along the coast. Every booking is private and the rate agreed in advance.

Why hire a driver here

  • You could arrive at any of three points, and none of them is near the others
  • The only sensible way to plan a Melilla crossing is around the current queue
  • Nobody comes off a European ferry with hand luggage alone
  • Reaching Saidia or Al Hoceima means a serious drive in either direction
  • The inland route to Fes runs five hours through the Rif and the Taza gap

Included in every booking

  • Fuel, tolls and the driver's fee for the agreed route
  • Airport, ferry port, border or hotel pickup
  • English-speaking drivers as standard on the India site
  • Extra luggage capacity at no charge
  • Vegetarian meal stops arranged on request

Airport and Port Transfers in Nador

Fifteen kilometres south of the city sits Al Aroui (NDR), whose traffic is overwhelmingly European - Spanish, Belgian and Dutch routes above all. Twelve kilometres north, in the opposite direction and right up against the Melilla frontier, is the separate ferry terminal at Beni Ansar where the Almeria and Motril boats berth.

The frontier is the unpredictable element in any Nador plan. A crossing might take five minutes or it might take well past an hour, entirely depending on the day and the time. Our drivers work it often enough to judge when to move; give us your flight or sailing details and we build the slack in.

Trips That Start in Nador

Transfer - from the airport or the boat

Short either way: fifteen kilometres from Al Aroui, twelve from Beni Ansar. Timed against your arrival, and always in a vehicle with room for what a family brings back from Europe.

1 day - east to Saidia

Long flat beaches near the Algerian frontier, lunch looking at the water, home in the evening. The beach day people actually take from Nador.

1 day - west to Al Hoceima

A cliff road above the Mediterranean, coves below it, a national park at the end and almost no other cars. It makes for a long day and it is among the least travelled roads in the country.

Transfer - south to Fes

Five hours over the Rif and through the Taza gap, joining the Mediterranean to the imperial cities. We usually break it for lunch somewhere along the way.

Driving and Getting Around Nador

Nador is easy to drive: compact, modern and never gridlocked the way the larger cities become. The corniche along Mar Chica is the agreeable part, and once you are in the centre it walks comfortably.

The three arrival points dictate the planning. Airport, ferry terminal and border lie in different directions, and a poorly timed border run in particular burns an hour that a driver watching the queues would have saved.

The coast road west to Al Hoceima is beautiful and slow, carved into cliffs above the Mediterranean with long empty stretches. Fuel and food stops are rare, so drivers plan them rather than assume, and it is not a road for after dark.

FAQs

Nador Car Hire With Driver - Your Questions

How much is a private driver in Nador in rupees?

A sedan with driver starts from about a day, an SUV roughly and a van , the usual choice for families off the ferry. Prices convert to rupees automatically and include fuel, tolls and the driver.

Can you meet us at the Melilla border?

Yes, every day. Crossing times swing considerably, so give us a rough hour and the driver waits on the Moroccan side rather than leaving you to find transport at the barrier.

How far is Nador airport from the city?

Al Aroui lies some 15 km south, a twenty-minute run. Beni Ansar's ferry port is 12 km north the opposite way, so it is worth stating which of the two you are arriving at.

How long is the drive from Nador to Fes?

Around five hours south through the Rif and the Taza gap, on decent roads the whole way. It remains the usual onward leg from Nador for anyone continuing into the rest of the country.

Is Nador worth staying in?

For most Indian itineraries it is a link rather than a destination - a way in from Spain or a waypoint on a Mediterranean route. The corniche and the fish are good, but with limited days, Al Hoceima and the coast road west are the better use of them.

Can you take a large family group with heavy luggage?

That is the bulk of our work here. Vans and minibuses are Nador's standard vehicle precisely because ferry arrivals travel heavy, and luggage capacity attracts no extra charge.
