Nador is a Mediterranean city on the edge of Mar Chica, the largest lagoon in North Africa, and it sees a fraction of the foreign visitors that reach Marrakech or Fes. Most of its traffic is Moroccan families returning from Europe, ferry passengers from Almeria and Motril, and people crossing to and from the Spanish enclave of Melilla a few miles up the coast.

For American travelers it usually appears as a link rather than a destination: a way into Morocco from Spain that avoids Tangier, a stop on a Mediterranean coastal route, or the northern end of a drive down to Fes. The city itself has a long corniche and good fish, but the reasons to be here are mostly practical.

Those practical reasons are exactly where a driver helps. The airport is nine miles out, the ferry port at Beni Ansar is separate again, the Melilla border has unpredictable queues, and the beaches and Al Hoceima are real drives along the coast. Every booking is private and the rate is fixed in advance.

Airport and Port Transfers in Nador

Al Aroui (NDR) is nine miles south of the city and handles mostly European routes, particularly from Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands. Beni Ansar, where the ferries from Almeria and Motril dock, is a separate port seven miles north near the Melilla border.

Melilla is the unpredictable part. Border queues swing from a few minutes to well past an hour depending on the day and the hour, and our drivers read the pattern well enough to time a run rather than blindly join the back of it. Send your flight or sailing and we build the margin in.

Trips That Start in Nador

Transfer - Nador airport or ferry to the city

Nine miles from Al Aroui, seven from Beni Ansar, both short runs. Timed against your flight or sailing, with extra luggage capacity as standard for families arriving from Europe.

1 day - Saidia and the eastern beaches

East along the shoreline to the long sand beaches at Saidia near the Algerian border, lunch on the front and an evening return. Nador's main beach day.

1 day - Al Hoceima and the Mediterranean coast

West on a truly spectacular coast road toward Al Hoceima and the national park - cliffs, coves and almost no traffic. A long day, and among the least known drives in Morocco.

Transfer - Nador to Fes

Five hours south through the Rif and the Taza gap - the standard way of connecting the Mediterranean coast to the imperial cities, usually with a lunch stop somewhere along it.

Driving and Getting Around Nador

Nador city drives easily - it is compact, modern and never gridlocked in the way the big cities are. The corniche along Mar Chica is the pleasant part, and the centre is walkable once you are in it.

The three arrival points are the thing to plan around. Airport, ferry port and border crossing are in different directions, and a mistimed border run in particular can cost an hour that a driver who watches the queues would have avoided.

Running west to Al Hoceima, the coast road is beautiful and slow, cut into cliffs above the Mediterranean with long empty stretches. Fuel stops come rarely, so drivers fill up before leaving rather than assuming, and it is not a road for after dark.

FAQs

Nador Car Hire With Driver - Your Questions

How much is a private driver in Nador in dollars?

A sedan with driver starts around a day, an SUV about and a van , which is the usual choice for families arriving by ferry. Prices convert to dollars automatically and include fuel, tolls and the driver.

Can you meet us at the Melilla border?

Yes, it is daily work. Crossing times vary widely, so give us a rough time and the driver waits on the Moroccan side instead of leaving you to find transport at the barrier.

How far is Nador airport from the city?

Al Aroui is about nine miles south, a 20-minute run. The ferry port at Beni Ansar is seven miles north in the opposite direction, so it is worth being clear which one you are arriving at.

How long is the drive from Nador to Fes?

Around five hours south across the Rif and through the Taza gap. It is a straightforward run on decent roads and by far the most common onward leg for anyone continuing into the rest of Morocco.

Is Nador worth staying in?

For most American itineraries it is a link rather than a destination - a way in from Spain or a stop on a Mediterranean route. The corniche and the fish are good, but if you have limited days, Al Hoceima and the coast road west are the better use of them.

Can you take a large family group with a lot of luggage?

That is most of our work here. Vans and minibuses are the default in Nador precisely because ferry arrivals come loaded, and luggage capacity costs nothing extra.
