Al Massira (AGA) is 14 miles southeast of the city, a 25-minute run to the beachfront hotels. Most flights are European charters, so American visitors typically reach Agadir via Casablanca or Marrakech - the latter a three-hour drive that we run as a fixed-price transfer with stops in the argan forest.

Trips That Start in Agadir

Half day - Paradise Valley

Forty minutes inland into the Anti-Atlas to palm-lined gorges and natural rock pools, with a stop at an argan cooperative on the way back. The best short trip from Agadir and manageable even on an arrival day.

1 day - Taghazout, Tamraght and the surf coast

North on the coast road through the surf villages, with time on the beaches, lunch on a terrace above the break and sunset from Cap Ghir. Bring your own boards and they ride free.

1 day - Taroudant and the Souss plain

Ninety minutes east to the walled town they sometimes call little Marrakech: ramparts still whole, a souk trading for residents, and no crowds whatever. The afternoon runs home through the argan groves.

Transfer - Agadir to Essaouira or Marrakech

Three hours up the coast to Essaouira through the argan forest, or three hours northeast to Marrakech over the Argana pass. Both work as a one-way transfer with photo stops built in.

Driving and Getting Around Agadir

Agadir is the easiest Moroccan city to move around - wide streets, light traffic and a grid layout. The complication is distance rather than congestion: the airport, the marina, Taghazout and Paradise Valley are all separate drives, and none of them is walkable from a beach hotel.

Northward the coast road is well paved and genuinely scenic, riding above the surf breaks with turnouts for photographs. It is also worked hard for speed, especially on the straights near Tamraght, and tickets get settled where you stand.

Inland the roads narrow quickly. Paradise Valley is reached on a single-lane mountain road with blind bends and occasional flash-flood damage after winter rain; our drivers check the state of it rather than assuming, and there is no phone signal for much of the way in.
