Agadir looks like nowhere else in the country. The earthquake of 1960 flattened it, and every building now standing went up afterwards: broad streets on a grid, ten kilometres of beach, resort hotels and a long seafront walk. No old medina survives, which catches out anyone arriving expecting a second Marrakech.

On a compact Moroccan itinerary Agadir is usually the thing to leave out - it is three hours beyond Marrakech and offers little that Essaouira does not do better and closer. Where it earns its place is on a longer trip, or as a few still days at the end of one, when a beach and reliable sun are exactly the point.

The case for coming lies in the surrounding country. Forty minutes inland sit the palm gorges and rock pools of Paradise Valley; north along the shore are the surf breaks of Taghazout and Tamraght; an hour and a half east stands walled Taroudant. Not one is within walking distance. Every booking is private and the figure is settled before you fly.

Why hire a driver here

  • Everything worth the journey lies beyond the city boundary
  • The airport is 22 km away and public transport barely covers it
  • Roads into the Anti-Atlas are narrow, winding and poorly marked
  • The hotel strip runs the full length of a ten-kilometre bay
  • If your trip is only a week, Essaouira is the smarter coastal stop

Included in every booking

  • Fuel, tolls and the driver's fee for the agreed route
  • Airport, hotel or riad pickup anywhere along the bay
  • English-speaking drivers as standard on the Hong Kong site
  • Bottled water and phone charging in the vehicle
  • Surfboard and extra luggage space on request, at no charge

Airport and Port Transfers in Agadir

Al Massira (AGA) is 22 km south-east of the city, a 25-minute run to the beachfront. Most flights here are European charters, so Hong Kong visitors usually reach Agadir via Casablanca or Marrakech - the latter a three-hour drive we run as a fixed-price transfer with argan forest stops.

Hotels spread over ten kilometres of bay from the marina to the far end of the promenade, so the pickup point genuinely matters. Give us the hotel name when you book and the driver comes to the right entrance rather than the nearest main road.

Trips That Start in Agadir

Half day - up to Paradise Valley

Forty minutes of climbing into the Anti-Atlas ends at a run of palm gorges and natural pools cut into the rock, with an argan co-operative visited on the descent. Easily managed on an arrival day.

1 day - the coast road and the surf towns

Taghazout and Tamraght, beach time in between, a long lunch on a terrace over the break, then Cap Ghir for the sunset. Nothing about the day is rushed.

1 day - inland to Taroudant

An hour and a half east stands a town with its ramparts entirely intact, a souk trading for locals rather than visitors, and none of the coaches. The argan groves come on the way back.

Transfer - Essaouira or Marrakech

North along the coast for three hours to Essaouira, or three hours inland over the Argana pass to Marrakech. Fixed one-way pricing, stops at no extra cost.

Driving and Getting Around Agadir

Nowhere in Morocco is easier to get around than Agadir - wide streets, an obvious grid and light traffic. Congestion is not the problem; distance is. The airport, the marina, Taghazout and Paradise Valley are four separate journeys and you will walk to none of them from a beach hotel.

Heading north the coast road is a genuine pleasure, well surfaced and running high above the breaks with places to pull in and photograph. It is also where the radar sits, particularly on the straights around Tamraght, and fines are settled where you are stopped.

Turn inland and the roads shrink fast. The route up to Paradise Valley is single lane with blind corners, and winter rain regularly damages sections of it, so our drivers check its state rather than assuming. Expect no phone coverage for most of the climb.

FAQs

Agadir Car Hire With Driver - Your Questions

How much is a private driver in Agadir in Hong Kong dollars?

A sedan with driver starts from about a day, an SUV roughly and a van . Prices convert to Hong Kong dollars automatically and include fuel, tolls and the driver.

Is Agadir worth including on a one-week trip?

Usually not. It is three hours beyond Marrakech and offers little that Essaouira does not do better and closer. On ten days or more it makes sense, especially if you want a few days involving no driving at all.

How far is Al Massira airport from the Agadir hotels?

Some 22 km to the south-east, about 25 minutes from the seafront. Send us the hotel name and your driver will be waiting inside the terminal and deliver you to the correct entrance.

Are the goats in the argan trees genuine?

The behaviour is entirely real - goats climb argan trees for the fruit and have always done so. What is staged are the particular animals posed within sight of the main road, where a tip is expected. Ask your driver and he will find trees where they climbed up unassisted.

How long is the drive from Agadir to Marrakech?

Around three hours by way of the A7 and the Argana pass, slightly more if you pause in the argan forest. Essaouira is a comparable three hours further up the coast.

Is Paradise Valley suitable for children?

Generally yes - the walk in from the parking area is short and the near pools are shallow. The access road is narrow and winding, so anyone prone to car sickness should sit up front, and in spring the water is colder than most people expect.
