Tangier has been rebuilt faster than any other Moroccan city this century - the commercial port moved out to Tanger Med, the corniche was redone, and a high-speed line now reaches Casablanca in a little over two hours. That last point matters most for Singaporean itineraries, because it makes the north genuinely reachable without losing a day to driving.

The logistics still deserve attention. Tanger Med is 40 km east of the city, so a ferry arrival is not a walk into the medina. The airport is 15 km south-west. The old town is small by Moroccan standards but still closed to vehicles, and the Rif roads south towards Chefchaouen are proper mountain driving rather than the motorway most people picture.

Every booking being private, the shape of the day is yours to set: cape and caves before lunch, the kasbah afterwards, then either a crossing to Spain or the road south. The rate is agreed before you travel and covers fuel, tolls and the driver.

Why hire a driver here

  • Tanger Med ferry port is 40 km out of town - arrivals need planning
  • Chefchaouen is reached by mountain road, never motorway
  • Medina and kasbah are walked, with very little vehicle access
  • Casablanca is just over two hours away by fast train
  • Cap Spartel and the Caves of Hercules are wholly outside the city

Included in every booking

  • Fuel, tolls and the driver's fee for the agreed route
  • Airport, ferry port, hotel or Tanger Ville station pickup
  • English-speaking drivers as standard on the Singapore site
  • Ferry timing coordination for same-day returns to Spain
  • Bottled water and phone charging in the vehicle

Airport and Port Transfers in Tangier

The airport is the simple one: 15 km out, twenty minutes, no complications. Tanger Med is not - 40 km east along the coast, closer to forty minutes, and passengers regularly step off the Algeciras boat expecting to already be in the medina.

For onward travel, the high-speed train from Tanger Ville reaches Casablanca in two hours ten. On a short trip that is often the right way south, with a private car handling the days at either end. We collect from the platform exactly as we collect from arrivals.

Trips That Start in Tangier

Half day - Cap Spartel and the Caves of Hercules

West along the coast to the lighthouse where the two seas meet, then the Caves of Hercules with that Africa-shaped opening onto the water, returning by the Marshan quarter. Two to three hours, and the best short outing on offer.

1 day - Tangier from Tarifa or Algeciras

Collected at Tanger Med or the fast-ferry terminal, cape and caves in the morning, lunch in the medina, then kasbah and Grand Socco, and back at the port with margin against the last sailing.

1 day - Chefchaouen and back

Two hours south across the Rif to the blue town, an afternoon in the medina and the climb to the Spanish Mosque viewpoint at golden hour, back in Tangier by evening.

Transfer - Tangier to Fes or Marrakech

Four hours south-east to Fes, generally by way of Chefchaouen or Volubilis, or the longer run south to Marrakech. The natural first leg of a north-to-south trip kept under one driver.

Driving and Getting Around Tangier

Tangier drives easily by Moroccan standards - the centre is small and the traffic never approaches Casablanca levels. What no car can do is enter the medina or the kasbah, and the streets feeding the Grand Socco narrow fast, so drivers work from the edge and collect at an agreed corner.

Never treat the airport and the ferry port as equivalent. The first is twenty predictable minutes; the second a forty-minute drive followed by the port's own screening and internal shuttles, which on a full sailing consume another half hour.

That the N2 south takes roughly two hours to cover 110 km tells you nearly everything - unbroken switchbacks through the Rif, stalls set out on the verges, and no reason at all to hurry. The surface is good; the pace is deliberate.

FAQs

Tangier Car Hire With Driver - Your Questions

How much is a private driver in Tangier in Singapore dollars?

A sedan with driver starts from about a day, an SUV roughly and a van . Prices convert to Singapore dollars automatically and include fuel, tolls and the driver.

How far is Tanger Med port from Tangier city?

Some 40 km east, about forty minutes. It catches out many visitors who assume the ferry berths in the city - the old port stopped taking the Algeciras route long ago. The Tarifa fast ferry does dock at the city terminal, which is far closer.

Can we cross to Spain for the day?

The fast ferry to Tarifa takes about an hour, and Singapore passport holders enter the Schengen area visa-free for short stays - so it is genuinely straightforward, unlike for many other nationalities. Give us your ferry times and we plan the Moroccan side around them.

Should we take the train or drive from Tangier to Casablanca?

Take the train if Casablanca is the only stop - two hours ten, comfortable and cheap. Take the car if you want Chefchaouen, Volubilis or Meknes on the way, since the train passes none of them. On a short trip the train usually wins.

Is Chefchaouen possible as a day trip from Tangier?

Yes - two hours each way through the Rif leaves five or six hours in the town. It is a long day, and an overnight is better if you have it, but on a tight itinerary the day trip is the practical answer.

Do you meet cruise passengers at the port?

Yes. Send the ship and the all-aboard time and we plan against them. Calls at Tangier run short, so we put the cape, the caves and the kasbah first rather than attempting everything.
